Professor Emily Ryall is Professor of Sport, Play and Games at the University of Gloucestershire, UK and Visiting Professor at the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

She grew up in Cornwall and attended Penair School in Truro before reading Philosophy and Linguistics at UEA in Norwich. After graduating with a Masters in Social Philosophy, she worked for an international technology company installing networks for the MoD, before retraining to be a teacher in Physical Education. She took up the offer of a PhD scholarship in the philosophy of sport at De Montfort University in Bedford where she wrote her thesis on the language of genetic technology in sport. Following this, she joined the University of Gloucestershire where she still currently works.

Emily has previously been Chair of the British Philosophy of Sport Association and Associate Editor for the Journal of Philosophy of Sport. She has delivered Professional Ethics workshops for the Chartered Association for Sport and Exercise Scientists (CASES), and works with M2M2 on delivering doctoral researcher training.

She is currently President of Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union, sits on the disciplinary panel for the RFU, and a member of the Standards, Ethics and Rules Committee (SERC) for UK Athletics.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing cricket, going to the gym, and playing video and board games.
